The TU’s Deschutes Chapter and Home Rivers Initiative with a great diversity of partners are pleased to share the following areas for project work and volunteer opportunities to help restore the Upper Deschutes River Basin. Together we are strategically working to increase stewardship efforts for our streams and landscapes to meet the needs for our communities and for the diversity and health of our fish. If you would like to join the DROP program and become a Steward, these efforts are close to the Bend, Redmond, and Sunriver areas and are fascinating projects to help and learn from. Each project has multiple facets attempting to support fish habitat with social and ecological challenges unique to the river section. Projects are in support of the Upper Deschutes Restoration Strategy and bull trout recovery plan. Come join these diverse projects.

Middle and Upper Deschutes River Area Projects for the Deschutes Restoration Outreach Program:

Tumbull Fish Restoration Project and Riparian Forest Trail Work


Plan: Volunteers are needed to help with a trail along the Upper Deschutes River and planting projects in the floodplain with the UDRC. The coalition is a group of landowners who care about the Deschutes River and they need our support. The overall project is being led by Deschutes National Forest and includes placement of large wood to stabilize banks, planting of riparian plants, and trail work to allow safe and controlled access to the forest and river.

Schedule: Spring planting needs will begin on April 12th, but the majority of the work occurs this fall. Let us know if you live in the area and are interested in supporting this project. Fall planting dates and non-native removal will be shared in the summer of 2010. Spring dates announced in the winter of 2010.
