The Deschutes Chapter and Home Rivers Initiative are pleased to announce the following areas for project work and volunteer opportunities which are part of the Strategic Plan for our Chapter and the development of our combined efforts in creating Stewardship in the Deschutes Basin.  If you would like to join the DROP program and become a Steward, these areas are close to the Bend, Redmond, and Sunriver areas where there is a monumental amount of work to be accomplished in the overall restoration and recovery strategy of Bull Trout and Redband Trout habitat in the Upper and Middle Deschutes Region of the Deschutes Basin.

Plan
: We are working with the Odell Lake Bull Trout Working Group to prioritize and implement restoration needs for the Odell Lake bull trout population and habitat within this unique closed system. Upcoming work entails studying the non-native brook trout population, improving fish passage, outreach education about the population and unique lake system, and monitoring water quality and population trends.

Partners: Deschutes National Forest, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Upper Deschutes Watershed Council, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife

Schedule: Monitoring and Planning work will occur in the spring and summer 2010 with upcoming volunteer needs announced in the summer of 2010.

Training opportunities: Water quality monitoring, fish population monitoring and outreach education for a diversity of audiences.
