The Deschutes Chapter of Trout Unlimited plans on playing a role in this area above Prineville and Ochoco Reservoirs by:
Actively participating in restoration projects conducted in the Deep Creek watershed, areas of private land ownership in the South Fork of the Crooked River, and the wildlife preserve located at Juniper Hills managed by The Nature Conservancy.
Monitoring issues pertaining to grazing and land use in the designated watershed.
Supporting work with groups to expand wilderness designations in the area.
Developing a community outreach program that seeks to educate the public and develop strategic partnerships regarding the importance of native species of Redband Trout and salmonids in the Crooked River Watershed.

Derr Meadow in the Deep Creek Watershed is an important section of the headwaters of the Crooked River as this is prime Redband habitat that in recent years has been under active restoration from land use and management practices in the area.
