Central Oregon Trout Festival and Orvis 2nd Annual North American Fly Casting Tournament

The 2010 Orvis National Casting Competition has concluded with a great weekend of activities and plenty of fun was had by all.  To ALL of our volunteers this weekend, we cannot thank you enough.  Without their help, their keen eye for judging and willingness to brave the heat over the weekend we would not have been able to make this event happen.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who devoted your weekend to this event.  I am taking in all of the photos over the weekend right now and putting together video footage as well, so look for updates in our galleries and video pages soon - Gabe Parr, Deschutes Trout Unlimited Communications Chair.

Please click the "read more" under this lead-in to find out what the official results were.

*****PREVIOUS YEAR'S ARTICLE AND LEAD IN TO THE 2010 EVENT IS CONTAINED BELOW THIS LINE******

The 2009 Orvis National Casting Competition at the Old Mill in Bend, Oregon was held on the first-of-its-kind 18-hole fly casting course completed in 2008 and located adjacent to the Orvis Bend retail store. The course was designed to test and improve fly casting skills in a variety of settings much like those you’d find in actual fishing conditions. The 2009 National Casting Competition used selected holes on the course but each competition hole was modified from its current format challenge for the competition. Over 50 participants tested their skills against the course and fellow competitors at the 2009 national casting competition. Most importantly, part of the proceeds for the event went to Trout Unlimited toward conservation projects in the Deschutes Basin and Central Oregon area.

In 2010, we’re planning on the same heated competition with even more contestants. The dates for this year’s competition are August 12-15.  To see a layout of the Casting Course and get the "Casting Course Guide" to get familiar with the layout, rules and challenges, please click here

August 13 - Amateur Division (Men’s and Women’s)
August 14 - Tournament and Professional Division (Men’s and Women’s - prizes awarded for men and women in each category)
August 15 - Team play (limited to the first 15 4-person teams that register)
August 15 - Kids Tournament - two divisions. 6-12 year olds and 13-17 year olds
