Crooked River - May 10th, 2010
supplied by: River Borne Outfitters, LLC
RECORDED:    57 °    FISHING: Good
Crooked River ( 395 CFS)

The Crooked has continued to drop and is now below  400 cfs. At the continued pace of reduction of flows, we should be at or below 300 cfs by weeks end. Barring some large rain event the Crooked should continue to drop until they reach the summer water level (around 150 cfs)

The spring Caddis fishing on the Crooked can be phenomenal. The Mothers Day Caddis hatch comes off in full force on this river, making for some unbelievable dry fly fishing. During hatches like this you can get an idea on how many fish are in this little high desert stream, as it seems all the fish in the river, with numbers reaching into the hundreds, are rising at the same time! Make sure you are well armed with High Vis. Brown Elk Hair Caddis sizes 16-18, the high vis will help you see your fly in a sea of naturals and foam bubbles.

I will be teaching a "Learn to Fly Fish Class" through COCC this weekend on the Crooked River. Space is still available, this is a good introduction or refresher to fly fishing.
